Frequently Asked Questions

Overview

What do you do?

We teach our clients how to finally take control of their weight with our unique combination of innovative tools, one-on-one counseling with an experienced advisor, and comprehensive support resources.

How is your program different from other diets that I've tried?

Our program is not a ‘diet’ in the conventional sense of a planned menu or restricted eating program generating a targeted caloric deficit. While those may be part of the comprehensive process of regaining control over our relationship with food, they are only part of the process.

We believe that everyone can be successful in managing their weight with the right advice, counselling, and support. And that the major challenge in effectively managing our weight before ‘sticking to a diet’, is first overcoming our own stress, anxiety, self-doubt, guilt, and confusion.

Our program builds on this foundation: Our proprietary tools empower you, allowing you to ignore all the confusing, sabotaging “noise” and focus on sustaining measurable progress towards your goals.

How soon will I see results?

Our program teaches you to make the small, sustainable changes to your everyday choices which result in you meeting your long term weight management goal.

You will see the effects that your choices are having as soon as the second day on the program, by using DietGauge-TLC: Tools for Lifestyle Change to learn the real change in your weight on a daily basis.

We see most of our clients building on this knowledge, and actively managing their weight by the end of the first week of our program.

How does it work?

Unlike other programs, ours provides assessment and feedback every 24 hours, so that you see each day the exact results of the choices you made in the previous day.

With this insight, it is trivial to — when presented with choices about what and how much to eat — make just slightly better choices today. Soon, you will observe that your good choices directly result in an increased rate of weight loss, and from there it is a self-reinforcing process. The better the choices you make, the more incentive there is to make better choices going forward.

What is DietGauge-TLC?

DietGauge-TLC is a unique and proprietary tool which takes the “noisy” raw weight values you enter from your bathroom scale, and shows you an easy to understand picture of your daily progress.

Here’s an in-depth look at how it works.

Why do you weigh yourself every day, when I've heard you shouldn't?

The idea that you shouldn’t weigh yourself daily is common, since trying to gain insight from the raw values is difficult, and can really be disheartening.

Our tools to remove the noise, giving you clear insight into the effects which your choices are having on your weight over the past 24 hours.

The gauges are green ( and I earned points today!) when the scale says I've gained some weight. How can that happen?

The DietGauge-TLC computers remove the noise from the raw data you enter, and works with the actual calculated amount of change.

Experience

Are my friends trying to sabotage me?

Has anyone else noticed how some women tend to want at least one other person to join them when they eat “junk” food, in order to lessen their guilt?

At work today I was seriously pressured by THREE other female co-workers to eat one of the new pastries that we got in.

Swear to god, they were actually genuinely IRRITATED that I didn’t join them.

My reason that I was avoiding sweets was just not good enough- they kept harassing me.

From a stress and anxiety issue viewpoint, when you’re NOT joining in and snacking with them, you’re presenting through your counter-example, something of a ‘threat’ to their own justifications for staying in their ‘comfort-zone’. When people’s comfort zones are pushed, YES, they can get ‘intense’ about it.

I’m a big fan of normalizing behaviour with regular mealtimes, so the ‘stock response’ would be, “I don’t want to spoil my (Breakfast|Lunch|Dinner) with snacking…”

What kind of foods do I eat?

If you’re not doing things sustainably while losing weight, you are going to have problems with maintenance once you hit your goal. This is why our program doesn’t restrict your choices at all. You can eat whatever you want, without exception. Of course, the next day’s assessment will clearly show the effect of those choices — for better or worse.

Should I be counting calories?

It depends. Everyone is different and what works well for one person might not be best for another. That is why we work with you to determine the best way to manage your weight.

Should I be weighing and measuring my food?

What about weight loss contests? Can winning a reward replace willpower?

Weight loss ‘competitions’ are popular, sure, but ultimately they’re are a waste of time.

You do all kinds of unsustainable things to try to win, and once it’s over you find you haven’t changed the things that needed to be changed. If you’re not worse off than when you began, you’re right back where you started.
